New online portfolio

I have a new online portfolio up now with work done over the past several years.

It looks best when you just let it run as a slideshow.

Andy Rutledge

I came across Andy's blog while searching for "design whores" on Google. He is not a design whore (or maybe he is - I don't know) but his design rants are pretty good. I have not been able to read through them all but from what I have read, I like him...

What Is Wrong With This Ad?

Here is a stupid ad. It was in Met Home. I love the fact that this full page(!) ad for Mitchell Gold is so incredibly off the mark. This is where interior design marketing has come I guess.

In this ad, the boy seems to be thinking, "I sure wish I hadn't stubbed my toe on this stupid chair in the middle of the room. It hurts. Ow. I hope I didn't crack my toenail. I'm too afraid to look..."

See, this dude just woke up at 11:30 in the morning and was going to the kitchen to get some water. This is his parent's house. This fellow does not have a real job. He is professionally good-looking. Like Zoolander.

And another thing. The ace marketing doofus who sold Michell this concept was quick to cite all the "research" data that shows women make all the decisions regarding things like furniture purchases. Men don't give a crap. However, one thing to realize is if you are one of these women, understand this: if you buy this furniture, this scene will not ever happen in your home. Some dreamy-eyed gay guy with a thing for you will not saunter out of the bedroom in his boxer-briefs and give you this smoldering look while draping himself over your furniture. Never. Your fat husband will simply leave his sweater hanging over the back and that's about it.

Wake up design-whores!
