Reinvention is the root of Design

There are some new and exciting changes that I am implementing as the second quarter approaches.

Firstly, I am changing the name of my firm to RYANstudio Inc. Mostly this has to do with wrapping up some old business issues related to GOOG and patryan:things LLC. but mostly because I have never liked the name patryan:things. It sounds stupid when I call someone and say, “Hi. This is Pat Ryan from pat ryan things”. What an awkward bunch of words.

I am going to put up a new website at www.ryanstudioinc.com shortly. My www.patryan.com site will be more focuses on my own personal design, art, and engineering projects that I am doing for myself rather than clients. It will give me more freedom to write for this blog without censoring my thoughts for the business world.

From the patryan.com site, you can link to a truly experimental product design site called, www.indusrial-luxury.com . I also have another site called www.patryandesign.com that I don’t really know what to do with right now. Maybe that will become a huge, online shopping center catering to artists, designers, and craftspeople. What do you think?

We are in the process of putting out a magazine for fabricators called Metal Planet (named after Mike Stroh’s company) that will address the metal fabricator and design demographic that is proliferating throughout the country right now. It will contain articles on fabrication techniques, small business management, tools and techniques, upcoming designers and fabricators, and other stuff related to the smaller fabrication shop aficionados out there. If you have ideas, articles, or other comments send them to me.

This site is beginning to get about 500 unique hits a week and is really making it obvious to me that there is a lot of interest in the info I am presenting here on this blog. I get a lot of email related to the business of custom design and creativity from all over the place. I have now enabled the blog to accept comments from readers who want to post on this blog. I didn’t have that before for fear that people would just post a bunch of stupid sex-related ads but I’ll take the risk.
